MY JOURNEY WITH SORBO STUDIOSI remember fondly my days on the set of Hercules, fighting monsters and evil-doers, and the thrill of bringing those uplifting stories to life for audiences around the world. It was a time when I felt the power of storytelling firsthand how it could inspire, encourage, and connect people. But as the years went by, I started to notice a shift in Hollywood. More and more, the stories they told seemed less about heart and more about agendas. It troubled me, and my wife, Sam, felt it too. We’d sit at our kitchen table, talking late into the night about what we could do to bring back the kind of stories that truly matter. That’s how Sorbo Studios came to be from a quiet hope of sharing something meaningful to make others’ lives better.

Sam and I didn’t set out to change the world. We just wanted to tell stories that reflected the values we hold dear—faith, family, and freedom. We’ve been blessed to see how these values have carried us through life’s ups and downs, and we wanted to create films that could remind others of their enduring strength. Starting Sorbo Studios was a leap of faith, a step into the unknown. There were moments when I wondered if we were doing the right thing, if anyone would even care. But every time doubt crept in, I’d think of the people (at speaking events, in airports, on the street, and elsewhere) who’d told me they were hungry for stories that spoke to their hearts. That kept us going.

One of our first films, Let There Be Light, is close to my heart. It’s about an atheist who, after a near-death experience, begins to question everything he thought he knew. I’ve had my own moments of wrestling with big questions, times when I’ve had to lean on faith to find my way. Making that film felt like a way to share that journey, to offer a story of redemption that might resonate with someone out there. Another project, Miracle in East Texas, came from a true story about two con men in the Great Depression. Their schemes take an unexpected turn, leading to a discovery that changes everything. It’s a reminder that even in our mistakes, there’s room for grace and community to shine through.

Beyond the films, Sam and I feel a deep calling to encourage the next generation. I’ve had the chance to speak to young storytellers, to see the spark in their eyes when they talk about their dreams. Sam’s passion for education, especially homeschooling, comes from the same place—a desire to help kids grow up with a strong sense of truth and purpose. We’re just parents and creators trying to do our best. If we can inspire even a few people to pursue their passions with integrity, that’s enough. If we can encourage parents to draw closer to the children and strengthen their families, it’s our honor. That’s why, at SorboStudios.com, we send out our emails, and why we encourage you to share them. We rely mostly on this platform as a vehicle to communicate our love for and faith in humanity and our creator.

Hollywood can feel like a tough place sometimes, with its focus on trends that don’t always sit right with me. We see it pointing away from God. Instead, we’re trying to offer something different—a place where stories can celebrate what’s good and true and beautiful. I think of the verse from Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” That’s the guidepost for our work. We’re not perfect, and we don’t have all the answers, but we’re trying to create films that point toward those things.

I’m grateful for every person who watches our films, who shares them with friends, or who simply takes a moment to reflect on the values they hold close. You’re not just an audience to us—you’re part of this journey. Together, I believe we can keep telling stories that lift up hope, faith, and love, one film at a time.
