The golf swing—like any sports move—is based on physics and geometry. All good players make the same fundamental moves. Qualified golf pros understand "the secret," and now you will, too!
Understanding the Turn
The "turn" is also known as:
And many more terms!
The Aging Athlete’s Challenge
When I was a young, successful player, the turn felt much easier. As we age, this movement can become challenging—often due to the legs or back. This is why the saying goes, "When an athlete loses their legs, it's time to retire." However, there are ways to adjust and improve this motion, even as the years go by.
Mastering the Horizontal Turn
Remember, the golfer’s rotation acts as the center (or axis) of the swing. If a player can execute this move, they gain remarkable power to consistently hit the ball farther and with greater accuracy.
The Vertical Plane Connection
The horizontal turn serves as a foundation that the vertical plane—including the arms, hands, shoulders, and club—coordinates with throughout the swing. By the way, both planes maintain a constant alignment. Many amateurs are unaware that there are consistent factors within the golf swing!
Stay tuned for a future article where we’ll dive deeper into these constants.
Focus on Your Turn
I hope this message inspires all golfers to evaluate and refine their turn. It’s often the missing link in your swing mechanics!
