Mental and Behavioral Health Careers Symposium

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, our students organized an impressive Mental & Behavioral Health Careers Symposium on May 2nd. This impactful gathering brought together mental health professionals to educate our students about the diverse career opportunities in this field and the support systems accessible to them.

Dr. Rose Bomentre delivered the keynote address, sharing her inspiring personal and professional journey. The symposium featured panelists from Soluna, Tay Center, Clay Counseling, Tri-City, and San Antonio Regional Hospital. We extend sincere gratitude to all who participated in the panel discussion and offered their support!

Chaffey Joint Union High School District

Etiwanda High School senior Nour Darwiche found her love for forensic science while participating in the Crime Scene Investigation class. She learned to collect and analyze evidence and understand criminal psychology. She shared that the hands-on learning, like fingerprinting and mock crime scenes, made it fun and practical. Nour says, "This class offers an exciting experience that prepares students for a future in forensic science."

Chino Valley Unified School District

Dominik Ledesma, a Buena Vista High School senior and student in the Residential and Commercial Construction program at BVROP, is all about building and designing. In the program, he learned how to work with tools like a miter saw and framed a wall with his classmates. Projects like these made him sure of a career in construction. Dominik can’t wait to start an apprenticeship after graduation.

Claremont Unified School District

Kainoa Blanchard, a senior at Claremont High School, took the Introduction to Engineering Design class and loved it. He learned the basics of AutoCAD and other engineering software, which boosted his technical skills. Kainoa plans to go to college to pursue a career in engineering. He highly recommends this class to anyone who loves problem-solving.

Upland Unified School District

Samella Joy Smith, a senior at Upland High School, found her joy in the Hip Hop Dance 4 class at Baldy View ROP. Through energetic routines and expressive choreography, she leveled up her dance skills and creative freedom. This experience sparked a serious passion for becoming a choreographer and dancer after high school. Samella can't wait to share her dance skills with everyone and encourages other students to check out this awesome class.

Alumni Feature

Armando Rodriguez, a proud Ontario native and Field Representative for Congresswoman Norma J. Torres, is a distinguished BVROP alumnus. While at Montclair High School in the mid-90s, he discovered a world of opportunities and aspired to a career in law enforcement. As a high school senior, motivated by Montclair High School’s support for Baldy View ROP, he enrolled in the Law Enforcement Occupations course, gaining valuable insights from local law enforcement. Though his career path shifted, Armando credits Baldy View ROP for its significant impact. He encourages students to explore ROP opportunities. His daughter, who will be a senior in high school, is in the process of selecting an ROP course for the upcoming school year. He firmly believes that every experience is a stepping stone to success.

Shavon Monterrosa

Senior Coordinator/ Principal Student Support, Equity & Access

Mrs. Shavon Monterrosa joins the BVROP team as our new Senior Coordinator/Principal Student Support, Equity, and Access. She joins us from the San Bernardino Superintendent of Schools, where she served as the Coordinator of Community Schools. Her extensive background includes roles such as Alternative High School Principal at West Covina USD, Middle School Assistant Principal at Bonita USD, and various positions at Chino Valley USD. She says, "I am excited to do whatever I can to provide students access to skills and experiences." Mrs. Monterrosa's hobbies and interests include sports, Disneyland, and popcorn!

Emily Turner

Student Records Specialist

Ms. Emily Turner, BVROP's new Student Records Specialist, brings 18 years of experience in the education field, encompassing both classroom teaching and extensive administrative work. For the past decade, she has successfully developed and operated two Montessori schools for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years. Ms. Turner holds a Master's Degree in Educational Studies and a Montessori Diploma in Assistance to Infancy. In her new role, she looks forward to answering everyone's questions while encouraging autonomy among students and staff. Outside of work, Ms. Turner enjoys outdoor activities and is a dedicated parent to her four children.

Angie Aguayo

Personnel Services Technician

Ms. Angie Aguayo has recently joined BVROP as our new Personnel Services Technician. Angie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial - Organizational Psychology and brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to our team. She is eager to make a significant impact on our success and looks forward to building strong relationships with both instructors and substitutes.

Outside of her professional life, Ms. Aguayo enjoys running, dancing, and spending time at Disneyland.
